When You Tell God Yes!

It has been so long since I’ve clicked “publish” on HUMBLE. So many people have asked when another blog was coming and honestly, I had no words. My headspace wasn’t in the right place to pour into anyone else because God was still doing a work in me.

I tried to control narratives that were never mine to control. I made decisions from a place of prayer, wisdom, and seeking God’s direction, but what I felt was obedience was sometimes perceived by others as doubt or a lack of trust.

I wrestled with wanting people to understand my heart while also learning to trust God’s voice above everything else. I wrestled with disappointment, uncertainty, and the need to have everything make sense.

Control had such a grip on me that it felt like it was choking the life out of my faith, until I finally told God, “Yes.”

I fought hard to make certain things fit into the life I imagined for myself, but they simply weren’t for me.

For the longest time, I didn’t think my career as an educator was where I was supposed to be. Yet God placed it on my bingo card for a reason.

Over time, I realized this wasn’t just a job, it was part of my purpose. I had to stop looking for what was next and learn to be faithful with what was already in front of me.

Instead of trying to run from the assignment God had already given me, I learned to be still and steward what He had placed in my hands.

When I finally stopped resisting and wholeheartedly told God “yes,” He began to shift my perspective. He didn’t just change my perspective, He expanded my purpose.

I was already a kindergarten teacher, but after my yes, God began opening doors I never expected. He allowed me to step into opportunities I never could have planned for myself. He opened the door for me to become a photography professor and He continued to grow my tutoring business. Those opportunities didn’t come from me having everything figured out.

When I say I told God “yes,” I don’t mean I gave Him permission to lead only in the areas I was comfortable with. I mean I surrendered wholeheartedly. I wanted Him to lead every part of my life because I couldn’t afford to keep leaning on my own understanding.

There were places He led me that felt uncomfortable, unfamiliar and even scary. But over time, those uncomfortable places became places of growth, peace, and purpose.

Saying “yes” to God requires surrender. It requires letting go of the need to control the outcome and trusting that His way is better than ours.

“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” - Luke 9:23 (NIV)

Saying “yes” to God doesn’t instantly remove the hard seasons. It doesn’t mean every prayer is answered the way you hoped or every door opens when you want it to. Sometimes His “yes” requires your patience and sometimes His “no” is actually His protection.

But here’s what I’ve learned, every time I surrendered something I was desperately trying to control, God replaced my anxiety with peace. Every closed door redirected me to something better. Every season I thought was wasting my time was actually preparing me for the next assignment.

Even when I couldn’t see the full picture, God already knew the plan.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” - Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

Maybe you’ve been trying to hold everything together. Maybe you’ve been forcing relationships, careers, opportunities or timelines that God never asked you to carry. If that’s you, ask yourself this, What would happen if you stopped gripping so tightly and simply said, “Yes, God”?

Your “yes” may cost you comfort, but it will never cost you your purpose.

I want to encourage someone today, when you tell God yes, your life will change. Not because life suddenly becomes easy, but because surrender changes the way you walk through life. You stop chasing what was never meant for you and start walking in what God has already prepared.

Steward what’s in front of you. Be faithful with the season you’re in. Trust God even when you don’t understand the process.

One day you’ll look back and realize that your greatest blessings didn’t come from having control, they came from surrender.

Maybe that’s what God has been waiting on all along.

A simple “yes.”
